Wataru Endo is not fazed by the fact that he was not Liverpool’s first-choice transfer target last summer. The Japan captain understands the surprise that came with his move to Anfield, but he is determined to prove his worth to the club.

Endo produced a superb performance in Liverpool’s 5-1 Europa League win over Toulouse on Thursday, scoring his first goal for the club with a well-placed header. His performance has raised hopes that he can become a key player for the Reds, despite not being their primary target.

“I know Liverpool wanted other players before me,” Endo said after the game. “But I’m not worried about that. I’m just here to work hard and help the team win. I’m confident that I can prove myself to the manager and the fans.”

Liverpool’s pursuit of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo in the summer was well-documented. However, both deals fell through, leaving the Reds to sign Endo as a backup option.

Despite his secondary target status, Endo is determined to make a positive impact at Liverpool. He has already shown his quality in the Europa League, and he will be hoping to get more opportunities to shine in the Premier League.
