Recently, host Rachel Nichols talked about Harden on Skip’s show Undisputed.
Nichols said, “Harden is 34 years old and he’s not what he used to be. He’s still a great player, but he’s not an MVP anymore. He needs to realize that and adjust accordingly. If he can do that, I think he’ll continue to be successful in the NBA.”
Nix noted that Harden struggled in the playoff series with the Celtics, totaling 22 points and 10 turnovers in Games 6 and 7. But he still considers himself the team’s leader and is unwilling to accept a lesser role.
“He has to realize,” Nix said, “that if he chooses to execute his $35.6 million contract, that’s his choice.” He could have chosen to become a free agent this summer and join any team to fulfill his goals. But he chose to stay in Philadelphia, which meant he had to accept a smaller role.”
Nix believes that if Harden wants to continue to be successful, he needs to make a change. He needs to realize he’s not the same player he once was and be willing to accept a smaller role.
